There are many ways to get involved with the Kalamazoo Derby Darlins, if you have a passion for derby, there is room for you in our league! Our league is a large, supportive community and we are always looking to expand it with new members.
Be a skater
You've read the New Skater page, you've watched your first bout, you have a friend on the team who has been urging you to join, and you're ready to take the plunge! KDD is recruiting year round, no need to wait, and there are no tryouts.
If you've got the drive, and the willingness, you can be a darlin! Come to a freshmeat practice to get started, you wont regret it!
Be an official
If you have a passion for rules, keeping others in check, and wearing snazzy striped shirts, or black polos, officiating roller derby sounds like a perfect fit! There are two different types of officials for roller derby, Referees, who are on skates, have strong knowledge of the rules and make calls using vocal and hand signals. Non-Skating Officials (NSO's) keep track of penalties, points, stats, and work the penalty box.
Without the hardworking officials, we would be unable to have any events, let alone safe ones. They keep the skaters informed of new rule changes that are passed down from the WFTDA.
Please contact our Co-Head NSO's Megnitude and A'Blazin Grace for more information about being an NSO. And Trickless Valentine for information on refereeing.
Be a volunteer
KDD wouldn't exist without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Volunteers run our merchandise table, our check ins booths, track crew, and are an invaluable part of our K-Town Shakedown tournament.
If you'd like to become a member of our volunteer family, please reach out to any skater, official, or current volunteer.
